While us Canadians celebrated Thanksgiving a month ago, I never stop being thankful for these ten things:
The incredible talent that pours out of authors. Without them I wouldn’t be reading. Without them I would be sucked into a world of technology and looking at screens all day. Without them I wouldn’t be here!
The ability to read. As I’m sure you’ll all aware, some people can’t read. I’m thankful that my parents live in a place where school in mandatory and affordable so I could continue to learn to read not only in English, but in French too!
The magical place that is libraries. I know I spend a lot of money on books now. It wasn’t always the case! I was a poor student once and couldn’t afford to buy all the books I wanted so I’m very thankful for libraires. I’m still thankful for them because I’d be EXTREMELY poor if I bought all the books I read.
The wonderful human being that is my dad. He bought me the first four Harry Potter books for Christmas one year and I’ll forever be grateful. He also never minded sharing his book with me.
More amazing human beings, my grandparents. My grandmother would bring me to the library with her when she went to get books for herself and my grandfather would drive me there even though he wasn’t into reading himself.
One more human, my cousin Melissa. She’s an English teacher so she’s always finding great books and lending them to me. She used to just drop off piles of books for us to read and she introduced me to my favourite author, Kelley Armstrong. Without her I would have never read any of Kelley’s books!
I’m also very grateful for languages. I’ve read several books that have been translated and it’s an incredible thing that we can all be looking at different words but be reading the same book. It honestly blows my mind.
While this isn’t always the case, I’m thankful for Twitter because I’ve met SO MANY amazing people on there. I’m looking at you guys Alice (@alicesbookvault) and Sarah (@kerosene_lit). I’ve also had the chance to talk to authors even! Like S. Usher Evans, Julia Ember and Lorna Reid. Fun Fact: they’re just like us!!
I’m also thankful that I live in Canada where we (usually) don’t judge people by their race, religion, etc so that I’m allowed to read books about other cultures and I can learn so much more.
Lastly, I’m thankful for you. For reading this post and hopefully many others. YOU are a wonderful human being and you should know that you are loved.
