While I do mostly read books based off of reviews and recommendations, there’s always some that just catch my eye. These are all books that I’ve read and loved, I just wasn’t sure if I’d love them when I picked them up.

orange is the new blackOrange is the New Black

Genre: Memoir

I don’t usually stray that far out of the fantasy genre but I love this TV show and thought the book would be fun too. It was A LOT different but I still really enjoyed myself.

the islandThe Island

Genre: NA, Fantasy, Romance

I knew hardly anything about this book or the author going into it. She had mentioned it to me on Twitter once and I thought I’d give it a shot because I felt like I needed something different at the time.

trueTrue (sort of)

Genre: Middle Grade, Contemporary

When I read MG books it’s usually a series I started when I was younger or something by my favourite author. This book was neither but it ended up being adorable and I loved every word.

strings

Strings by David Estes

Genre: Young Adult, Sci Fi, Dystopia, Retelling

Once I saw Pinocchio retelling I knew I needed to read this book even though I wasn’t sure it was something I’d normally read. Lucky for me, it was an excellent book!

white catWhite Cat by Holly Black

Genre: Young Adult, Paranormal

This was just a book I saw on Overdrive and picked up for fun. I knew nothing about it and ended up loving it.

falling kingdomFalling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes

Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy

I read this one before I saw it all over the book world. I don’t know how it didn’t become popular until now but I really enjoyed reading this one.

nowhere but hereNowhere But Here by Katy McGarry

Genre: Young Adult, Contamporary

I hardly ever read contemporary books but I saw this ebook on sale and bought it for fun. It’s probably one of the only contemporaries that I’ve loved!

walk on earthWalk on Earth a Stranger by Rae Carson

Genre: Young Adult, Historical, Paranormal

I can’t say much about this book except that I saw it and just randomly decided to read it. Without even reading the summary. It was totally worth it.

alice in zombielandAlice in Zombieland by Gena Showalter

Genre: Young Adult, Paranormal

I read this one years ago and only finished the series recently. How could you not want to pick it up with that title though?

gameboard of the godsGameboard of the Gods by Richelle Mead

Genre: Adult, Fantasy

We’ve all seen Richelle’s Vampire Academy series so I got a little curious and decided to give one of her other novels a try. I wasn’t disappointed!

  1. I read about half of these. I wasn’t especially found of OITNB, I like the TV-series a lot more. But I love Falling Kingdoms, and Alice in Zombieland. Great list. Thanks for sharing, and for stopping by my TTT earlier. 🙂

  2. I love the Gameboard of the Gods series! I want book 3 to come out right now! Not well known but such a good book! I loved Alice in Zombieland too, wasn’t too happy with Falling Kingdoms but I’m still reading book 3 so we’ll see! Here’s My Top Ten !

  3. Cait @ Paper Fury

AHHHHH WHITE CAT!! *flails for eternity* I can’t even remember why I picked that one up!?? I think it’s because I loved some of Holly Black’s other books so I went for it, but omg, why isn’t that series more popular?! It’s funny and clever and SO GOOD. Eeeep! 😂

  4. I cannot wait to read ‘Nowhere but Here.’ I’m a BIG contemporary fan, but I’ve never read any of Katie’s novels, so I’m definitely curious. 🙂 I also own ‘Alice,’ which was probably a “whim” buy also. Hope it’s good! Thanks so much for visiting and commenting on Finding Wonderland this week.
