Their village is gone. Their friends have betrayed them. And now, they are all but prisoners in court, forced to watch and wait while the Emperor decides whether to help the children of Edgewood, who remain hostages of the treacherous Alvar Kitsune.

But when the emperor finally sends the girls on a mission to rescue the children - accompanied by Prince Tyrus and a small band of men - the journey proves more perilous than any of them could have imagined. With lies and unrest mounting in the empire, Moria and Ashyn will have to draw on every bit of influence and power they possess to unite their people and avert an all-out war.

In this second book in her epic and captivating Age of Legends trilogy, #1 New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong blends romance, danger, and magic to send readers on a heart-racing journey through an unforgettable world.

I’m loving the art on this cover. It’s so creepy and cool! They’re doing a great job so far with cover art in this series. Keep up the great work!

Initial Thoughts

I love everything ever written by Kelley Armstrong and she has yet to disappoint. I expected great things from this book!

My New BFF

I think Moira is my favourite character. I like Ashyn too but I feel like I can relate to Moira more. She’s not afraid to fight to get out of a tough situation. I just find myself waiting for her point of view to come up again but I’m not sure why. I like both of the sisters! They’re the opposite of each other and it makes them a great team. But when asked who my favourite is my mind immediatly jumps to Moira. I just like how she accepts a situation, asses it, and then fights her way out of it. Her way of thinking is easier for me to understand.

My Crush

I was crushing on Prince Tyrus a lot in this book. I miss Gavril a lot though. He wasn’t in this book that much though so I’ll stick with Tyrus for now. I liked that even though he’s a prince, he still wants to go out and prove that he can fight for the kingdom. I also love that he doesn’t want to be Emperor, like any other typical male character. He worked great with Moira too which is probably why I liked him so much. He’s going to do important things in the next book, I can feel it.

Writing Style

I’ve always loved anything Kelley Armstrong writes. She’s great at character development and at making the plot interesting. I zoomed through this book and could hardly put it down. Nothing new there. Everything she writes is fantastic.

Closing Thoughts

I really can’t wait until the next book comes out. I waited too long to read this one! I’m looking forward to seeing how that last plot twist plays out and I’m hoping for some romance in the next book. I love that the two sisters are breaking the rules to save their loved ones. I hope everything works out in the end but I’m sensing some deaths in the near future. Let’s hope it’s not my favourites! Great book, I’d recommend it to anyone.
