I decided on doing today’s Bout of Books 9.0 challenge today! The challenge today is:

Introducing Someone to your Favourite Genre

The genre I’m choosing is going to be Supernatural Fantasy. This is technically a sup-genre in the fantasy category but fantasy is way too broad. Fantasy can be a lot of things but I’m choosing to focus on supernatural or paranormal. To me, supernatural has to do with creatures like ghost, angels, vampires, werewolves, witches, and all of those other things.

Here are three of my favourite books in this genre to help convince you guys to give it a try.

Moon Called

Moon Called by Patricia Briggs

Mercedes “Mercy” Thompson is a talented Volkswagen mechanic living in the Tri-Cities area of Washington. She also happens to be a walker, a magical being with the power to shift into a coyote at will. Mercy’s next-door neighbour is a werewolf. Her former boss is a gremlin. And she’s fixing a bus for a vampire. This is the world of Mercy Thompson, one that looks a lot like ours but is populated by those things that go bump in the night. And Mercy’s connection to those things is about to get her into some serious hot water.

This is the start to the Mercy Thompson series, which is amazing and everyone should read it.It’s mostly about werewolves but there are some vampires, shape shifters and witches around too. You can see my review here.

Bitten by Kelley Armstrong

Elena Michaels is a werewolf. She tries to be human, but the man whose bite changed her existence forever, and his legacy, continue to haunt her. Thrown into a desperate war for survival that tests her allegiance to a secret clan of werewolves, Elena must reconsider who and what she is.

This is the start to the Women of the Otherworld series. Another great one and I recommend Kelley Armstrong to everyone. This one has lots of everything. There’s werewolves, witches, vampires and even half-demons among others. You can see my review for this one here.

Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh

In a world that denies emotions, where the ruling Psy punish any sign of desire, Sascha Duncan must conceal the feelings that brand her as flawed. To reveal them would be to sentence herself to the horror of “rehabilitation” – the complete psychic erasure of everything she ever was…

Both human and animal, Lucas Hunter is a changeling hungry for the very sensations the Psy disdain. After centuries of uneasy coexistence, these two races are now on the verge of war over the brutal murders of several changeling women. Lucas is determined to find the Psy killer who butchered his packmate, and Sascha is his ticket into their closely guarded society. But he soon discovers that this ice-cold Psy is very capable of passion – and that the animal in him is fascinated by her. Caught between their conflicting worlds, Lucas and Sascha must remain bound to their identities – or sacrifice everything for a taste of darkest temptation.

Another great series. You can find a lot of good supernatural books. This one is about a new kind of creature called the psy, who are kind of like vampires but they don’t drink blood. They have no emotions and have mind abilities. There’s also a kind of shape shifter involved too. Plus there’s A LOT of romance. My review is here.

That’s it for today’s challenge. I’m not very far with the marathon. I’m only about 60 pages into my first book still. Looks like I’m not going to make my goal. I’ve got too much going on! I am going to try some more challenges though, just for fun.
