Book Review: Seven Days of You

Book Review: Seven Days of You

I’m disappointed. After reading the synopsis of Seven Days of You I was expecting a contemporary I’d at least like. I’m generally pretty picky with my contemporary books but this one sounded unique which is why I requested an ARC of it. My first and biggest problem I had with Seven Days of You is the setting. Seven Days of You takes place in Tokyo. I was expecting lots of vivid descriptions because how many YA books take place in Japan? I should have kept my expectation A LOT lower because it didn’t feel like we were in Japan at […]

Book Review: Daughter of the Pirate King (Daughter of the Pirate King #1)

Book Review: Daughter of the Pirate King (Daughter of the Pirate King #1)

I had high expectations going into Daughter of the Pirate King and I hadn’t seen many advanced readers so there wasn’t many reviews I could read before starting it. I just thought that any book featuring an epic female pirate would have to be good, right? I wasn’t wrong. While some plot points were a little predictable, I found the whole story to be really interesting. Basically the whole plot is about Alosa being “kidnapped” when she really planned the whole thing so that she could look for this mysterious map piece. Most of Daughter of the Pirate King is […]

Book Review: The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

Book Review: The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

This is an extremely difficult review to write because of all the hype surrounding this book and the sensitive topics. For the most part, I enjoyed The Hate U Give. There were things I liked and things I didn’t and there was still some problematic areas. I’m going to try my best to explain the jumble of thoughts swirling in my brain as I finished this book. These are all opinions though and I’ve focused on the book itself, not the issues surrounding it. I liked the ideas of The Hate U Give. I loved that it’s about the Black […]

Book Review: Caraval (Caraval #1)

Book Review: Caraval (Caraval #1)

The biggest thing I loved about Caraval was how magical it was. It wasn’t that magic was used so directly but that everything that happened had a little bit of magic in it. The outfits our characters wore were magical, the places they saw were magical, and even some of the other characters they met were full of magic. The magical aspects are what really held this book together for me because otherwise, I don’t think I would have finished.  “Whatever you’ve heard about Caraval, it doesn’t compare to the reality. It’s more than just a game or performance. It’s the […]

Blog Tour: Jadeite’s Journey

Blog Tour: Jadeite’s Journey

Hello lovelies and welcome to my stop on the Jadeite’s Journey blog tour! Excerpt Jadeite glanced around at the people huddled together in small clusters. That’s when she realized the spot where they’d slept was empty. Malachite had vanished. She scanned the room, but he was nowhere in sight. He was not in the 3 alcove to her right. W hat if he’d gone outside? H er stomach twisted. She wouldn’t put anything past Malachite. She hurried to the main entrance, where a small group of men remained. She was about to turn back when one man stepped aside. Malachite slipped […]

Blog Tour: The Unwanted (Black Water Tales #2)

Blog Tour: The Unwanted (Black Water Tales #2)

Hello lovelies and welcome to my stop on the The Unwanted blog tour! The Unwated is a young adult horror/supernatural book that I’ve been told is perfect for fall! It’s the second book in this series but it can be read as a standalone which I think is great! When I am writing a book, I always create a Pinterest board for the project to inspire me to create dramatic visuals that can be incorporated into the work. The mood board that I created for The Unwanted is cold and lonely and reflects the emotions that flow through every person, place and thing in […]

Book Review: The Thousandth Floor (The Thousandth Floor #1)

Book Review: The Thousandth Floor (The Thousandth Floor #1)

This is a book that I went into with high expectations and it probably wasn’t a good idea. I didn’t not like this book but I didn’t really love it either. I really loved the idea of all these people living in a giant tower. That was great but we didn’t really get to see much of it. We saw bits and pieces of it but we didn’t learn anything about how it came to be or how it even works. It felt like we were expected to know this place already and even though it was set in New […]

Book Review: Summer of Sloane

Book Review: Summer of Sloane

If I could rate this book based off of the first half then it would have gotten a four and maybe a 5. It was the first half of this story that sucked me in and kept me there. I loved the idea of our main character going to Hawaii to try and clear her head and figure things out. I wish that was something I could do but sadly it’s a little too pricy for me. In the beginning I liked our main character Sloane. She’s going through a really confusing time and I thought she was doing really […]

Book Review: The Star-Touched Queen (The Star-Touched Queen #1)

Book Review: The Star-Touched Queen (The Star-Touched Queen #1)

I hate it when books with great concept end up being disappointing. Thought the writing was gorgeous, the actual plot and characterization was poorly executed. Pretty writing isn’t enough to make up for a bad story sadly or else this would have gotten a higher rating. Honestly I gave this book an extra star just for the writing alone which was probably bad of me. Oh well! I did appreciate all the diversity in this book as well but once again, it couldn’t make up for the bad plot. Side note: there was a super cool talking horse that I […]
