Book Review: Playing Defense (Corrigan Falls Raiders #2)

Book Review: Playing Defense (Corrigan Falls Raiders #2)

My favourite part about this book is that it’s super Canadian. It makes me realize just how many books takes place in the US. It’s really nice to be able to relate to a book like this. Which is why we don’t only need diverse characters but diverse settings as well. I found it really helped me to get into this story, especially since it revolved around hockey. It’s not something I would have thought to pick up but I loved it when I did. I love the idea of the team in this book. These guys really have each […]

Book Review: Gemina (The Illuminae Files #2)

Book Review: Gemina (The Illuminae Files #2)

Gosh. This book was just as good, if not better, than the first book. I can’t even explain to you why. There were problematic parts but I was just SO entertained the whole way through that I couldn’t help but give this book five stars. There wasn’t a single chapter that wasn’t filled with action. I found that this book even had a few horror elements (the gross worms if you’ve read it) which I actually liked even though I was terrified. It was nothing too horrible this is a YA book after all. I feel like the format of […]

Book Review: Nemesis (Nemesis #1)

Book Review: Nemesis (Nemesis #1)

This was a book where I ended up loving it more than I thought I would. I don’t know why I thought I wouldn’t like it, probably because I read some negative reviews, but I was honestly enjoying myself through the whole book. I loved how it played on Egyptian culture but there was a lot of fantasy elements mixed it. I found the whole word to be pretty unique actually. They used the pyramids and the pharaoh wore a big headpiece just like in Egyptian mythology. Then there was these giant serpent beasts that people could ride or use them […]

Book Review: The Gathering Storm (Katerina #1)

Book Review: The Gathering Storm (Katerina #1)

The characters were the main redeeming quality in this book. The ones I could remember anyways. I kind of liked how some characters had a clear side. They were either good or bad. But most characters had a little bit of both in them which felt more realistic to me. It was especially refreshing in a fantasy. I happily fell in love with one of the male characters, George. He was kind of moody and wasn’t involved in the first half of the book which was sad but I really loved him. Too much. It took me a little bit […]

Book Review: Rook by Sharon Cameron

Book Review: Rook by Sharon Cameron

For some reason the main male character in this book reminded me of Gaston from Beauty and the Beast. But in a good way? Very strange. I really loved him though and I’ve added him to my book boyfriend list. He was such an interesting character! You could never tell if he was lying or tricking someone (most often he was) but at the same time he could really surprise you! He really made this book for me. I loved our main character as well. I loved that she was always underestimated for being a girl but she was still […]

Book Review: Night Study (Soulfinders #2)

Book Review: Night Study (Soulfinders #2)

I can’t even explain to you all how much  I love this series. I’m so glad I finally picked this up, but horribly sad that the next book isn’t out yet. This is a really great series for binge reading! I really happy that we get to see Yelena again in this series! I’m also really glad that we’re learning so much more about Valek! The character development continues to surprise me because all of these characters are so well written! We’re also meeting some new characters and really getting to know some old ones which makes it a nice […]

Book Review: Empath by S. Usher Evans

Book Review: Empath by S. Usher Evans

This book surprised me. In all the best ways. I was expecting an epic fantasy but I wasn’t expecting the story hidden underneath that one. I wasn’t expecting this story to be about someone struggling with their mental health. I think that was my favourite part. There was so much I wasn’t expecting and that made the story so much better to read! I’m not usually one to read about mental illness or mental disorders. It’s not something I’ve been able to relate to or really enjoyed reading. I could really relate to our main character here though. I wouldn’t […]

Book Talk: The Heir (The Selection #4)

Book Talk: The Heir (The Selection #4)

I was pleasantly surprised with this book. I thought the first part of this series was ok but I think I liked this book a little bit more than the others. I thought it was cool seeing the selection in the point of view of the person who was doing the selecting. I can tell being on either end is hard but this was a different perspective. I really liked seeing the characters from the other books grown up. I thought it was really fun seeing them all a little older though it was frustrating because they all still acted […]

Series Review: The Dark Elements by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Series Review: The Dark Elements by Jennifer L. Armentrout

It’s hard to me to describe what I love with this series because it’s actually pretty cheesy and has A LOT of YA book tropes in it. If I had to take a guess I’d say it’s the idea that because it follows so many tropes, I know it’s a reliable book. I know that author is going to give me exactly what I want. I know that there will be an epic romance no matter how predictable it is. I think in this case, I like how predictable the book is. I like knowing that the super hot bad […]

Book Review: Center Ice (Corrigan Falls Raiders #1)

Book Review: Center Ice (Corrigan Falls Raiders #1)

This book was exactly what I needed for a quick light read. It was adorable in every way. I especially loved how Canadian this book was! I don’t often read sports books. When I do it’s usually about a guy on a football team. That must be a really American thing right? Because in Canada it’s usually all about hockey. That’s partially why I loved this book! Our star athlete was a hockey player which I found way more fun! That could be because I don’t know much about football hehe. This was a shorter book but I still found […]
