Book Review: Daughter of the Pirate King (Daughter of the Pirate King #1)

Book Review: Daughter of the Pirate King (Daughter of the Pirate King #1)

I had high expectations going into Daughter of the Pirate King and I hadn’t seen many advanced readers so there wasn’t many reviews I could read before starting it. I just thought that any book featuring an epic female pirate would have to be good, right? I wasn’t wrong. While some plot points were a little predictable, I found the whole story to be really interesting. Basically the whole plot is about Alosa being “kidnapped” when she really planned the whole thing so that she could look for this mysterious map piece. Most of Daughter of the Pirate King is […]

Book Review: Inspire (The Muse #1)

Book Review: Inspire (The Muse #1)

I was gifted this book during a secret santa exchange because I was told I would like it. Well congrats to my secret santa because she wasn’t wrong! I’ve been starting to venture out of young adult books and moving into new adult and adult. Possibly because I’m getting a little older so my reading is doing the same. I really liked that Inspire was a new adult book because it’s just kind of nice to read an older, more mature romance book every once and a while. I was also a really big fan of the characters and if you know […]

ARC Review: The Union (Madion War Trilogy #3)

ARC Review: The Union (Madion War Trilogy #3)

I think that this was a wonderful ending to a series I quickly fell in love with. It’s been so consistent which is fantastic because it has never been disappointing to me. The plot continues to be mostly fast paced and the characters grow steadily throughout the whole series. It was those characters that really made me stick with this series until the end. It’s hard reviewing the end of a series because I don’t want to give anything away. While I love Theo and think she’s a fantastic character, there will always be a spot in my heart for […]

Book Review: Living in the Shallows (UK Crush #1)

Book Review: Living in the Shallows (UK Crush #1)

I feel like this is one of those books that I probably wouldn’t usually like, but for whatever reason at the time that I was reading it I actually enjoyed it. I’m not usually a big fan of contemporary or romance stories but this one was kind of fun to read. It was about a girl who ends up finding a job as a translator to a super famous boy band and she becomes friends with them. It’s like a fantasy come true for some people! The band actually reminded me a lot of One Direction (probably because they were […]

ARC Review: Love and First Sight

ARC Review: Love and First Sight

I loved the whole idea of this book. You could tell that the author really did his research about visually impaired people because it felt realistic. There was no face touching (which I never knew if people actually did that or not) but the main character was able to make lots of jokes about his situation. He was a guy that had accepted blindness was a part of him instead of being cranky and cynical all the time. It made him an easy character to like. The group of friends that our main character mad were also pretty cool. I liked […]

Book Review: Thanks A Lot, John LeClair

Book Review: Thanks A Lot, John LeClair

The best part about this book was the overall feeling. The feelings of being a teenager and not knowing what do to with your life but also the feelings of knowing exactly what you want to do but not knowing if you’ll get there. This book talks about hope and dreams with the added mixture of family drama that nobody can escape from. If was a very realistically written book and it almost made me feeling like I was 16 again. Even though there was such a mixture of emotions, this was actually a happy book. It made me feel […]

Book Review: Playing Defense (Corrigan Falls Raiders #2)

Book Review: Playing Defense (Corrigan Falls Raiders #2)

My favourite part about this book is that it’s super Canadian. It makes me realize just how many books takes place in the US. It’s really nice to be able to relate to a book like this. Which is why we don’t only need diverse characters but diverse settings as well. I found it really helped me to get into this story, especially since it revolved around hockey. It’s not something I would have thought to pick up but I loved it when I did. I love the idea of the team in this book. These guys really have each […]

Book Review: Nemesis (Nemesis #1)

Book Review: Nemesis (Nemesis #1)

This was a book where I ended up loving it more than I thought I would. I don’t know why I thought I wouldn’t like it, probably because I read some negative reviews, but I was honestly enjoying myself through the whole book. I loved how it played on Egyptian culture but there was a lot of fantasy elements mixed it. I found the whole word to be pretty unique actually. They used the pyramids and the pharaoh wore a big headpiece just like in Egyptian mythology. Then there was these giant serpent beasts that people could ride or use them […]

Book Review: Empath by S. Usher Evans

Book Review: Empath by S. Usher Evans

This book surprised me. In all the best ways. I was expecting an epic fantasy but I wasn’t expecting the story hidden underneath that one. I wasn’t expecting this story to be about someone struggling with their mental health. I think that was my favourite part. There was so much I wasn’t expecting and that made the story so much better to read! I’m not usually one to read about mental illness or mental disorders. It’s not something I’ve been able to relate to or really enjoyed reading. I could really relate to our main character here though. I wouldn’t […]

Book Talk: The Heir (The Selection #4)

Book Talk: The Heir (The Selection #4)

I was pleasantly surprised with this book. I thought the first part of this series was ok but I think I liked this book a little bit more than the others. I thought it was cool seeing the selection in the point of view of the person who was doing the selecting. I can tell being on either end is hard but this was a different perspective. I really liked seeing the characters from the other books grown up. I thought it was really fun seeing them all a little older though it was frustrating because they all still acted […]
