Ever since being kidnapped from the Illiais Jungle as a child, Yelena Zaltana's has been fraught with peril. But the recent loss of her Soulfinding abilities has endangered her more than ever before. As she desperately searches for a way to reclaim her magic, her enemies are closing in, and neither Ixia nor Sitia are safe for her anymore. Especially since the growing discord between the two countries and the possibility of a war threatens everything Yelena holds dear.
Valek is determined to protect Yelena, but he's quickly running out of options. The Commander suspects that his loyalties are divided, and he's been keeping secrets from Valek...secrets that put him, Yelena and all their friends in terrible danger. As they uncover the various layers of the Commander's mysterious plans, they realize it's far more sinister that they could have ever imagined.
I can’t even explain to you all how much I love this series. I’m so glad I finally picked this up, but horribly sad that the next book isn’t out yet. This is a really great series for binge reading!
I really happy that we get to see Yelena again in this series! I’m also really glad that we’re learning so much more about Valek! The character development continues to surprise me because all of these characters are so well written! We’re also meeting some new characters and really getting to know some old ones which makes it a nice mix of the familiar and the new. I love that everyone is actually acting older which I find isn’t always done well in books. The author seems to be really good at making these characters still feel the same as they always were, but at the same time you can tell they’ve grown a lot. Most of them are older than me now!
I’m rally interested in where this plot is going. I love how a big part of this book is about Yelena learning to find other strengths other than magic. It’s really showing us that magic isn’t everything and sometimes you have to work without it. I mean we can all relate to that but for these characters it’s like if you suddenly lost a part of yourself. You have to relearn how to do everything because it’s not quite the same. I especially love the support from all of Yelena’s friends. It’s such a great group of characters we have here that’s it’s impossible not to love them all.
I honestly can’t think of anything I didn’t like about this book. Maybe that it went by too fast? I think that was my fault though, whoops!
I really love that the previous series in this one mega series were young adult and this one has moved to something a bit older. It’s great for me because I’m also in that transitioning phase with my reading I think. I feel like other people going through that same phase will also relate to these characters a lot like I did.
This is one author who can write a second book that’s just as good as the first. There’s no need to ever lower your expectations because they will always be met head on.
