In the three kingdoms of Mytica, magic has long been forgotten. And while hard-won peace has reigned for centuries, a deadly unrest now simmers below the surface.
As the rulers of each kingdom grapple for power, the lives of their subjects are brutally transformed... and four key players, royals and rebels alike, find their fates forever intertwined. Cleo, Jonas, Lucia, and Magnus are caught in a dizzying world of treacherous betrayals, shocking murders, secret alliances, and even unforeseen love.
The only outcome that's certain is that kingdoms will fall. Who will emerge triumphant when all they know has collapsed?
It's the eve of war.... Choose your side.
Princess: Raised in pampered luxury, Cleo must now embark on a rough and treacherous journey into enemy territory in search of magic long thought extinct.
Rebel: Jonas, enraged at injustice, lashes out against the forces of oppression that have kept his country cruelly impoverished. To his shock, he finds himself the leader of a people's revolution centuries in the making.
Sorceress: Lucia, adopted at birth into the royal family, discovers the truth about her past—and the supernatural legacy she is destined to wield.
Heir: Bred for aggression and trained to conquer, firstborn son Magnus begins to realize that the heart can be more lethal than the sword....
This is a very fantasy-like cover and I actually really love it. I especially love how every single thing on there is 100% relevant to the story. Props for that!
I haven’t heard much about this series until fairly recently. I was actually surprised I never heard of it until now! I’m really glad I picked it up though because I needed more fantasy that isn’t paranormal in my life.
My New BFF
Out of all four main characters I loved Cleo the most. She could be naive at times but I found she was actually a very strong and courageous girl. I was impressed with how she changed during the book from a privileged young girl to a fighter who could tell right from wrong. I’m really excited to see where her character goes next.
I didn’t really love either male leads in this book or any male characters. (Yet) I’m sure as they grow I’ll learn to love them just as much as Cleo! I’m actually looking forward to that because with the way it ended it seems like Jonas is going to steal a lot of hearts in the coming books. Prepare yourselves for some rough emotions guys!
There was nothing special about the writing style in this book, which is mostly why it didn’t get 5 stars from me. I wasn’t 100% sucked into reading it but it was still an excellent book. The world building was fantastic and the characters are already growing up so much! The plot was a tiny bit slow at the beginning but it evened out and continued at a nice pace that wasn’t overly fast but not too slow either.
I normally hate comparing books to each other but this was like Game of Thrones for young adults minus the dragons. (So far?) I actually kind of liked hating some of the characters at the start because I feel like it will make them better in the next books. I’m disappointed that the whole series isn’t out right now because this is the perfect series to binge read.
I loved the idea that magic maybe exists in this world but there’s only legends and myths of it. It’s cool seeing the characters either discover it and slowly start to believe in it. It’s going to make for an interesting war at the end though! I’d highly recommend this book!
