She won't rest until she's sent every walking corpse back to its grave. Forever.

If anyone had told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that's all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone.

Her father was right. The monsters are real.

To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn't careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies.

COVER

I hate but love the girl in pretty dress covers. It’s gorgeous but isn’t relevant to the story at all.

INITIAL THOUGHTS

The first book was a reread for me. It’s one of those series where I started a long time ago and never got around to finishing. It happens. I knew I liked the first one but I couldn’t remember much about it.

MY NEW BFF

Alice was a pretty badass character. I loved how fierce she was sometimes and would do anything for her family. I especially loved how her family was actually involved in the story because I find authors can forget about them a lot. Her relationship with her little sister was sad yet happy at the same time. I wish her family had a happier ending but I liked how Alice still made connections to them as she was learning about the zombies.

MY CRUSH

I’m absolutely in love with Cole. He reminds me a little of Daemon from the Lux series. He has that bad boy attitude going on but cares deeply for his friends. I really love how he’s portrayed as a leader of sort while not being outright bossy. His friends just always look up to him automatically. There were some moments where I thought his relationship with Ali was a little intense but¬†everything worked itself out in the end.

WRITING STYLE

There wasn’t anything special about the writing style here but it was still really good. The plot moved along quickly with enough details to keep you hooked. There was a little mystery to the book sometime which I found really helped to keep me reading. The characters were all fairly realistic and developed nicely. You could tell just by their interactions with each other how much older they were getting.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

I really, really loved this series. I’m warning you though, if you’re going to read this series DO NOT read the summary for book four. There’s a huge spoiler in there and I ruined the third book for myself. I was a little unhappy about that. I’m not actually sure if I’m interested in reading the fourth book at all. It’s kind of like a companion instead of a fourth book to the series. We’ll have to see how I feel. I’d recommend this series to all paranormal romance lovers, especially fans of the Lux series. The romance is intense, the zombies are hungry, and these book are ready to be devoured.!
