kiss of deceptionThe Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson

Where did I get it? I bought it from Chapters after I heard all the good things about it!

A princess must find her place in a reborn world.

She flees on her wedding day.

She steals ancient documents from the Chancellor’s secret collection.

She is pursued by bounty hunters sent by her own father.

She is Princess Lia, seventeen, First Daughter of the House of Morrighan.

The Kingdom of Morrighan is steeped in tradition and the stories of a bygone world, but some traditions Lia can’t abide. Like having to marry someone she’s never met to secure a political alliance.

Fed up and ready for a new life, Lia flees to a distant village on the morning of her wedding. She settles in among the common folk, intrigued when two mysterious and handsome strangers arrive—and unaware that one is the jilted prince and the other an assassin sent to kill her. Deceptions swirl and Lia finds herself on the brink of unlocking perilous secrets—secrets that may unravel her world—even as she feels herself falling in love.

Pretty typical cover but it actually makes sense once you read the book.

Initial Thoughts

After reading the back I was really excited to start this book. It sounded like exactly my kind of book!

My New BFF

Lia was clearly my bff in this book. I thought she was a great character! She was extremely brave and a great lead character. I really liked that even though she grew up in a privileged environment, being next in line for the throne and everything, she was still willing to work hard for a good life. I LOVED that about her.

My Crush

I can’t tell you who my crush is because that might give everything away. And we can’t have that. I will say that both male leads were fantastic and I loved them both.

Writing Style

You never know what is going on in this book and it’s wonderful. You think this guy is the assassin and this one is the prince? No wait. Other way around? You never know! That’s what makes this book so amazing. It’s full of lies and deception with a little bit of romance through in to make everything that much more interesting.

Closing Thoughts

I would recommend this book to anyone. It’s wonderful and you won’t be able to put it down. The only thing that worries me is that the second book won’t be as good. This book set the bar really high and it’s going to take a lot to live up to it. I hope the author can do it!
