In mythology, folklore and speculative fiction, shapeshifting, or metamorphosis is the ability of an entity to physically transform into another being or form. This is usually achieved through an inherent faculty of a mythological creature, divine intervention, or the use of magic spells or talismans.

Featured Shapeshifter:

Lucas from Slave to Sensation

This shapeshifter in particular is seductive. That’s why I chose that adjective. Because it worked. Anyways, you can’t read this book and not fall in love with Lucas. Seriously though. It probably doesn’t help that the author purposely uses him to draw us in. It worked. Just a warning though, there’s also some (maybe a lot depending on who you are) sexual content in this book so don’t read it if you aren’t into that stuff. It’s technically put in the romance genre, which makes sense, but what really makes me fall in love with this book is the incredible story that goes a long with the romance. Lucas is an attractive alpha shapeshifter who could probably have any girl he wants, but he falls in love with a cold, emotionless psy (like a mind vampire thing, great explanation I know) and he shows her how to feel. It sounds really cheesy but I’m not doing it justice. Basically this race has been trained not to feel anything because it gets in the way. In comes Lucas, the perfect gentleman, who teaches her that it’s not a bad thing. The romance is amazing, the plot is amazing, and the world of all these different races is amazing. Seriously, if you don’t mind a lot of heavy romance but you still want some fantasy, then this series is for you.

Summary: In a world that denies emotions, where the ruling Psy punish any sign of desire, Sascha Duncan must conceal the feelings that brand her as flawed. To reveal them would be to sentence herself to the horror of “rehabilitation” – the complete psychic erasure of everything she ever was…

Both human and animal, Lucas Hunter is a changeling hungry for the very sensations the Psy disdain. After centuries of uneasy coexistence, these two races are now on the verge of war over the brutal murders of several changeling women. Lucas is determined to find the Psy killer who butchered his packmate, and Sascha is his ticket into their closely guarded society. But he soon discovers that this ice-cold Psy is very capable of passion – and that the animal in him is fascinated by her. Caught between their conflicting worlds, Lucas and Sascha must remain bound to their identities – or sacrifice everything for a taste of darkest temptation.

I read a lot of books about shapeshifters. I love them. Any recommendations are appreciated! Happy reading!

  1. Um I’m trying to think, I’m sure I’ve read several books with shape shifters. There’s one in The Obsidian Mirror by K.D Keenan. I used another character from the book for my letter Q. Chaco shifted from a man to a Coyote, it was based on Native American mythology. It also had a cute creature called a Mannegishi who liked to be called Fred.

  2. I can’t legitimately think of any shapeshifters in published fiction, right now… I can only think of my gf’s personal characters that fit the bill. I love them, haha… but no one else would know them. 😛
