Where did I get it? I bought it at chapters to get ready for the third book.
When Sybella arrived at the doorstep of St Mortain half mad with grief and despair the convent were only too happy to offer her refuge – but at a price. The sisters of this convent serve Death, and with Sybella naturally skilled in both the arts of death and seduction, she could become one of their most dangerous weapons.
But her assassin’s skills are little comfort when the convent returns her to the life that nearly drove her mad. Her father’s rage and brutality are terrifying, and her brother’s love is equally monstrous. But when Sybella discovers an unexpected ally she discovers that a daughter of Death may find something other than vengeance to live for.
Simple and dark. Fits really well with the story.
I was disappointed to learn the there was a new main character in this book because normally that doesn’t work out well for me. Luckily the author caught my interest long enough for me to fall in love with this character too.
My New BFF
Sybella is a lot like Ismae but with much more experience. She was easy to love but I found myself pitying her a lot more than I wanted. She was never week though, which I admired greatly. I find myself more interested in strong female leads as opposed to the feminine ones who can’t do anything for herself. She has a very dark back story though so be prepared.
Beast was an interesting character. Not the typical good looking hero sort of guy. That’s what I loved about him. He was genuinely a good person. This book made me mature as a reader I think. I’m no longer interested in the perfect guy to be my hero. Beast makes for a much better story than I could imagine.
I found this book to be a lot more intense than the first. The first one was really dark but this book has a feeling of hopelessness that you can’t get rid of after ready. There’s so many emotions going on while you’re reading that you can never pick just one. It was hard to finish the book though because I didn’t want to let it go. Everything about it was well written.
I was amazed by how well the author created the villains. There was quite a few of them and they were all fantastic. I was a little disappointed with Julian’s ending but all the others got what they deserved. I loved how Ismae was seen throughout the book because I really missed her. All the different characters from the first book still interact with the characters from this book and it makes it that much better. I really, really enjoyed this book despite being iffy about the new characters. That author pulled it off very well.
