Lies by Michael Grant
Where did I get it?
Chapters a while back but you can buy it at Book Outlet for cheap here.
It’s been seven months since all the adults disappeared. Gone.
It happens in one night. A girl who died now walks among the living; Zil and the Human Crew set fire to Perdido Beach; and amid the flames and smoke, Sam sees the figure of the boy he fears the most: Drake. But Drake is dead. Sam and Caine defeated him along with the Darkness—or so they thought.
As Perdido Beach burns, battles rage: Astrid against the Town Council; the Human Crew versus the mutants; and Sam against Drake, who is back from the dead and ready to finish where he and Sam left off. And all the while deadly rumors are raging like the fire itself, spread by the prophetess Orsay and her companion, Nerezza. They say that death is a way to escape the FAYZ. Conditions are worse than ever and kids are desperate to get out. But are they desperate enough to believe that death will set them free?
Too typical of a cover. All of them have these two kids on the front and two on the back. The new editions that came out are way nicer but I don’t want to change now.
I didn’t enjoy the previous book as much as I expected to so my expectations were pretty low. I’ve been hearing such goods things about this series and it’s not living up to what I’m hearing.
My New BFF
I really liked Sanjit in this book. He was a new character and a bit younger but he knew what to do when anything happened. It was actually pretty fantastic. I find the author is really good at introducing new characters and making them fit in. All the characters were a little crazy in this book though.
I love Edido. (Is that how you spell his name?) I was really disappointed that we didn’t get to see a whole lot with him in this book. He was a much more prominent character in the first two books and he sort of disappeared in this one. How sad. I want to say that I love Sam too but he went through a big change in this book. I don’t think it was a good chance but it was very realistic. That’s one thing I can count on in this series, how real the characters are.
I found this book a little slow and less action packed. I still enjoyed it a lot more than Hunger though. The author is great at writing characters but I’m not 100% sure I’m following when it comes to the villains in this story. Drake is fairly easy to understand but that evil shadowy thing in the mines? I have no idea what the author is trying to accomplish with that. I’m hoping it all clicks soon.
I enjoyed this book a lot more than I thought I would. I was a little disappointed with the amount of action but I still found that there was enough to keep me entertained. One thing I can always count on is how consistent this author is being with the whole series. I also love the idea of this new world. We don’t know anything about it just like the characters. Where did it come from? Where did the adults go? Who knows! I can’t wait to see how everything turns out in the end.
Something I find I really enjoy is that each book has a different theme. This one focuses on team work a lot I think and how there are key people needed to do different things. I love that about this series.
“We do need a system, and we do need you and your ‘Bertos, and sometimes we need Sam to just come along and kick some ass.”
