Where did I get it? On Book Outlet of course! Look here. Also mine is a signed copy! How exciting!
Galen is the prince of the Syrena, sent to land to find a girl he’s heard can communicate with fish. Emma is on vacation at the beach. When she runs into Galen—literally, ouch!—both teens sense a connection. But it will take several encounters, including a deadly one with a shark, for Galen to be convinced of Emma’s gifts. Now, if he can only convince Emma that she holds the key to his kingdom…
Told from both Emma and Galen’s points of view, here is a fish-out-of-water story that sparkles with intrigue, humor, and waves of romance.
I kind of really like this cover. It’s pretty typical but it mostly works with the story and is just really pretty.
The only thing I knew about this book going in was it was about mermaids. That’s it. I haven’t really seen a whole lot of reviews and people talking about it so I had no expectations at all. Just a warning though, this review is mostly going to be me gushing about how much I loved it. Whoops.
My New BFF
I LOVED Emma. I thought she was a great main character and really badass for a female lead. I also thought she was great at not needing anyone to do things for her. If she wanted something she got it done. I found her relationship with Galen’s sister to be hilarious! Actually most of that family was pretty funny. My favourite parts were when everyone was together. They made a really entertaining book.
I crushed on Galen pretty hard core. How could I not though? He was gorgeous and smart and a mermaid. Sounds awesome right? What I really loved about him was that he wasn’t the typical guy that always told the unsuspecting female lead what to do. He knew she could do what she wanted so he made nice suggestions instead. I also loved how he never doubted Emma for a second. He stood by all of his decisions.
I loved the writing in this book. All the characters wee very well done and the plot was exciting. The cliff hanger at the end drove me crazy though. Probably worth it.
I found that this book was really easy and fun to read which I like ever once and a while. There were some darker, more intense moments but they worked well with the plot and added some excitement.
I devoured this book. After I finished I went to the book store and immediately bought the second one and then proceeded to finish that too. It’s been a while since I’ve been this caught up in a series. It probably helps that I haven’t read a lot of mermaid books so the subject is a little new to me. I really enjoyed the subtle hints of mythology that were really easy to understand and didn’t take up the whole book.
My favourite part of this book was the characters. I loved how they all interacted with each other and their changing relationships. I was surprised that I loved this book because of all the romance. It’s usually not my thing but this one really sucked me in. It’s definitely going to quickly become one of my all time favourites.
“There’s nothing wrong with your daughter, Mrs. McIntosh. I said we’re not sleeping together. I didn’t say I didn’t want to.”
