I saw an article on mugglenet that had the same title only it was their top five and it was heroes in movies. I thought I’d give it a try since this weeks’ Β Top Ten Tuesday is a freebie! This meme is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish every week if you want to join.

Top Ten Heroes to Replace the Harry Potter Shaped Hole in Your Heart

1. Percy Jackson: He’s kind of a younger version of Harry. He’s growing up though! The Percy Jackson series is over but Rick Riordan is in the process of writing another series involving him called the Heroes of Olympus Series. Go check it out here.

2. Cinder from the Lunar Chronicles: She doesn’t exactly remind me of Harry Potter but they do share some qualities. She’s a very inspiring character that I’ll be sad to see go when the series is all over. Check it out here.

3. Mercy Thompson: For the Harry Potter fans that are all grown up and want an adult series, give this one a try. There’s lots of crazy magic going on and Mercy is an awesome main heroine.

4. Jace from the Mortal Instruments series: This is just a really popular series. There’s a lot of Harry Potter like things happening in the book that I’m not necessarily a fan of. It’s kind of too similar sometimes but it works.

5. Yelena from Poison Study: Another fantastic adult series. This one reminds me of Harry Potter because Yelena is an orphan who has no idea what powers she has, just like Harry.

6. Katsa from Graceling: A powerful female heroine, magic is new to her too. She’s a very entertaining character to follow.

7. Eragon: This series is done as well but you can still give it a try! This is a series probably closest to Harry Potter while still being different. I loved reading about the dragons in this book, it was definitely unique.

8. Peter from The Chronicles of Narnia: Kind of a religious series but it’s easy to ignore with all the action. Definitely a classic like Harry Potter.

9. Frodo Baggins from The Lord of the Rings: If you’re really ambitious give this series a try. It really is incredible.

10. Elena from the Women of the Otherworld series: Another adult series but this one has all the aspects of Harry Potter that I love. There’s lots of different kinds of magic, a ton of awesome characters, and these supernatural beings are all hidden in the human world. I loved everything about this series.

I love love love that some of your heroes were girls. Because who says Harry Potter’s shoes can only be filled by another boy? Also, adding Women of the Otherworld to my to-read list now!

  2. Great list! Over the years I’ve come to really appreciate how much Frodo went through in carrying the Ring (like, it was a big deal, but over the years I realised just to what extent of a big deal it was, lol). And Percy Jackson is a great character; your list reminds me that I still need to catch up on Heroes of Olympus xD (I’m two books behind!)

    My TTT

      • I’m kind of half for it half against it. Sometimes it seems like it a Harry Potter copycat. The finally came out this week so we’ll see how it all ends.

      • oh, okay. don’t know what to think about that, but when I would refer to literary theory, then everything is intertextual. Everything has already been written down before πŸ™‚ Maybe it was copied a bit from the harry potter series, but maybe it was just inspired by it. If the writing style is nice, then we should appreciate it πŸ™‚

      • I can’t decide if I like the writing style or not haha. I feel like it’s a good book but everyone will have drastically different opinions about it.

      • This is the normal thing about opinions of books πŸ™‚ There will always be positive ones and bad ones. I think everyone has to try for themselves πŸ™‚ If that’s your opinion, then it is absolutely fine πŸ™‚ I also have to admit that I didn’t like the LotR Series so much, because it was boring to read at times :/

      • Haha I still haven’t finished it. I really have to push to get through any of it. The Hobbit was really easy for some reason though.

  3. Awww, nice topic! That Harry-shaped hole in my heart will never fully go away… I love that you included Mercy Thompson — that series is amazing, and she’s such a great character! Nice list. πŸ™‚

  4. 8. I think Lucy is the bigger hero, but that’s just me. Peter might fight wars but Lucy is the voice that gives him and their other siblings faith and courage.
