Books I Hated

Don’t Read These Books Ever

I was trying to think of some cool posts that would be fun and different from the usual reviews and book memes. For the month of April I participated in the Blogging A to Z Challenge where there was a new post every day. I’ve started to use the scheduling posts option a lot more so now I can write a post whenever and pick what day I want it to post. It’s so much easier! So hopefully I’ll be able to write more fun posts like these.

There aren’t a whole lot of books I really hate but there’s a lot I didn’t enjoy or really disliked. Here’s some books that I personally think you should avoid.

Books I hated

Bumped and Thumped by Megan McCafferty

I don’t think I hate a book as much as I hate these two. Just everything about it was terrible and cliche and stupid. I have reviews up for Bumped and Thumped that you can go look at for more detail but it was terrible. It’s all about getting pregnant as many times as you can. So pretty much the worst scenario of our world ever. Plus she mixes this pregnancy world with some religion stuff and it just gets really weird.

Wither by Lauren DeStefano

This one was just weird. A girl gets kidnapped to be one of a wealthy mans wives. Sounds weird? Well it was. He was basically trying to get them all pregnant and there was his creepy father that encouraged it all. I was really uncomfortable wile reading this.

Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard

This series just goes on too long. There’s like 12 books or something. Let’s just calm down. It’s like a YA mystery series and the ending was terrible for the first 9 books. Then the author decided to write more! I HATE it when authors do that. Just stop writing PLEASE.

The Shack by Paul Young

This book was just boring. There was no action of any kind. Every book has some kind of plot but nope. Not this one.

Books I disliked

Wake, Fade and Gone by Lisa McMann

These books were just too quick and obvious. I have longer reviews for them if you want more detail but they were mostly boring. Also the characters didn’t really develop, they were just kind of there.

Twilight by Stefanie Meyer

I liked this book at the start. I wish it was a stand alone book because I would have liked it more. As the series went on it just repeated the story over and over. Plus the plot twist to Breaking Dawn was that she got pregnant. Are you seeing a pattern here? I hate pregnancy books. It’s not a solution to a problem! It’s not fun and exciting. Sure in real life it’s great, but when you’re 18 and just graduating high school maybe you should live a little first.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

This book was just boring for me. I almost didn’t finish it. Plus it was kind of weird.

Books with too high of expectations

The Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith

LOVE the tv show. SO much. I really do. But I couldn’t stand these books. SPOILERS. In the first book she’s a human and gets turned into a vampire. In the second she’s a vampire and then dies. In the third she’s actually a ghost but then turns human again. No. Just no. END OF SPOILERS.

Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

This one was mostly just badly written. I just couldn’t handle how annoying all the characters are and how boring the plot was. I just couldn’t do it.

Requiem by Lauren Oliver

This book was going so well and then came the worst ending of all time. That’s all I’m going to say.

Books I just didn’t enjoy

Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie

This is actually a creepy book. I just couldn’t get into it though and had to quit about half way through.

Inkheart by Cornelia Funke

I read this book when I was a little older than the target age for it. I still thought it was weird and predictable.

The Immortals by Alyson Noel

There was just a lot wrong for me with this series. It was also weird and predictable.

What are some books you really didn’t like? Let me know below! I’d love to hear!

  1. I started reading the Pretty Little Liars, but I eventually had to stop after so many books. The characters just drove me crazy. I also agree that Requiem was a horrible ending.

I also HATED Allegiant. More than Requiem.

    • I surprisingly liked Allegiant. I think it’s just because the author was brave enough to try that. I’m pretty much the only one that liked it though haha.

  2. The Shack is actually a highly controversial book that questions the idea of Christianity/God. I don’t know that it was meant to be read as a piece of fiction per se, but more as a piece of theological debate. I took a six week class through my church, just on this book and its implications. It was pretty wild 🙂

    • Yea I got that afterwards but someone gave it to me to read and reading the back makes it sound like a mystery. I dunno, it was not fun haha. It was also a little strange.

  3. You really didn’t like the Alchemist?? This book actually belongs to my most favorite ones. I also love the inkheart trilogy. I read it as a teenager and totally got lost in that fantastic world.
I haven’t read Peter Pan, but I would really like to read it one day. That story of the movie belongs to my childhood. And I think the creepy atmosphere is quite understandable. I have watched the movie about J.M. Barrie staring Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet, and the time he wrote the book was a very sad phase for him :/ The movie is really sad but also wonderful.

    • Peter was scary. I think I’m actually scared. I like the Disney one better haha. The Alchemist wasn’t a bad book I just don’t think it was for me. Everyone had great reviews so maybe my expectations were just too high. Inkheart was ok but then I couldn’t get into the second book for whatever reason. I wish I liked it though!

  4. I am on the second book of the pretty little liars series, but have gotten a little bored it’s not very different from the T.V Series, will finish it sometime soon though, I hope. Books 16 is about to come out and think it is the final one.
Also i thought you were kidding about Peter Pan being creepy lol, I still have not started it, maybe tomorrow. Nice post, most of the books I have not yet read.

    • I couldn’t get into Peter Pan. It was way too weird for me. And the language mixed with the weirdness didn’t help haha. Think about it though. He basically steals little children at night.
