Spy Glass by Maria V. Snyder
pub – 2012
After siphoning her own blood magic in the showdown at Hubal, student glass magician Opal Cowan lost her powers. Immune to the effects of magic, Opal is now an outsider looking in, spying through the glass on those with the powers she once had. Powers that make a difference in the world.
Suddenly the beautiful pieces she makes begin to flash in the presence of magic and Opal learns that someone has stolen some of her blood. Finding it might let her regain her powers or discover that they’re lost forever.
I loved this book. Until I got to the end anyways. Not that it was bad, but I didn’t like how it ended. The rest of the book was amazing as usual. Opal was fantastic and the plot had lots of action. I wish there had been more of the other great characters in it. It was mostly just Opal and some lesser characters. I loved that Valek was a big part of it though. Kind of. He was there in spirit a lot, typical Valek, but he was amazing. He’s a favourite for sure.
Opal lost herself a little in this book. It fit in with the plot though. The point of this book was Opal finding herself I think. That sounds pretty cheesy, I know, but it was great. I missed Kade in this one. I loved him so much. We saw a lot more of Devlen though, who I’m not a big fan of.
I hated the ending. I didn’t like how Opal chose Devlen. It makes no sense. Who is going to chose the guy who tortured them? Nobody. It’s not very realistic. Plus I really loved Kade. A lot. I was upset she didn’t pick him. But it’s not an end of the world kind of bad ending. Just not something I would choose.
END OF SPOILER!
At the end, looking at everything in this book, I’m giving it a 4 out of 5.
