WAKE by Lisa McMann
About WAKE (taken from goodreads.com)
For seventeen-year-old Janie, getting sucked into other people’s dreams is getting old. Especially the falling dreams, the naked-but-nobody-notices dreams, and the sex-crazed dreams. Janie’s seen enough fantasy booty to last her a lifetime.
She can’t tell anybody about what she does they’d never believe her, or worse, they’d think she’s a freak. So Janie lives on the fringe, cursed with an ability she doesn’t want and can’t control.
Then she falls into a gruesome nightmare, one that chills her to the bone. For the first time, Janie is more than a witness to someone else’s twisted psyche. She is a participant.
Review of WAKE
Wow this book sucked. I was excited to read it from the little blurb on the back but holy geez it was bad. First of all the writing sucks. Everything is super choppy and there’s like no detail. We don’t know anything about anything or anyone.
I didn’t really like the characters but I’m not sure because WE DON’T KNOW ANYTHING! Janie is just stupid. She drinks and swears too much which she is way too young for. For a young adult book there’s way too much mature content. Underage drinking, drugs and illegal sex. I think that’s a little too much for teenagers. Then There’s Cabel who we also know nothing about. He’s more of the “good guy” in this book but still stupid. He talks to Janie once, sits with her on the bus, she tells him her biggest secret then passes out, they make out and then they’re in love. Really? You’re kidding right?
Anyways I would not recommend this book to anyone. Ever. I’m only giving it 2 stars because it’s a really good concept that the writer failed to bring to life.
2 out of 5. Good try.
